Preparing the Exterior Around Your Home For Building Moving

Of course the focus on building moving is on moving your home or structure safely from one location to another. Be it moving down the street or from Rhode Island to Connecticut or Massachusetts, the preparation for house moving includes taking care of outside items, also.

Here are some things to think about as you prepare for your building move.

  1. Shrubbery, of course, will have to be considered if is close to the house. Any valuable or sentimental plants should be transplanted prior to the move to preserve them.

  2. Landscaping items such as flower bed accessories, rocks, and pavers should be moved so that they are not damaged. Also, if you have an outdoor shower, lean-to, or other utility area, they will need to be removed.

  3. Steps should be removed before the house moving begins. Also decks and porches that are not to be lifted must be demolished or removed before the move.

  4. Get your neighbor’s permission to use their property if necessary. This is especially true if your home is very close to the property line. Also, plan for fixing any ruts or damage that might occur from equipment driving on the neighbor’s property.

  5. Fences around the house will need to be removed as well as any property line fence that is near the structure.

  6. Septic systems and leach fields and underground utility lines should be marked out for safety.
